Trauma Therapy & PTSD Treatment in Athens, GA

Trauma Therapy & PTSD Treatment in Athens, GA

Intro Paragraph

Athens carries trauma within its two communities in different but equally real ways. On the university side, UGA's student population faces sexual violence, assault, and identity-based harassment at rates matching national data for large public universities -- leading to PTSD that often goes untreated for months due to counseling center waitlists. Graduate students bear the specific psychological wounds of academic power dynamics, intellectual exploitation, and betrayal trauma from boundary violations in advisor relationships. For Clarke County's Black community outside campus, trauma stems from community violence, economic stress, and racial hypervigilance, which the university town infrastructure does not distribute equally. Radiant Recovery offers trauma therapy and PTSD treatment for Athens residents via telehealth across Georgia. EMDR and CPT are available. Georgia Medicaid is accepted. Same-week appointments.

Who We Help

Sexual assault and sexual harassment survivors at UGA

Sexual violence on university campuses occurs frequently nationwide, and UGA is no exception. The PTSD that results from sexual assault--such as avoidance, intrusive memories, hypervigilance, shame, and the secondary trauma of navigating Title IX and institutional processes--requires specialized, affirming clinical care. We offer EMDR and CPT for sexual trauma survivors with confidentiality, clinical expertise, and without the delays that make campus resources inadequate for urgent needs.

Graduate students with advisor relationship trauma

The betrayal trauma resulting from boundary violations, intellectual exploitation, or coercive dynamics in advisor relationships is a recognized clinical category that campus mental health systems are often poorly equipped to handle -- because the institution is both the source of the trauma and the provider of its support. We offer confidential care that is independent of UGA's systems.

Black Clarke County residents processing racial and community trauma

Racial trauma, community violence, and the cumulative psychological impact of living in a city where institutional resources are unevenly distributed result in trauma presentations that our BIPOC clinicians address with clinical seriousness and cultural sensitivity.

LGBTQ+ students experiencing identity-based trauma

Identity-based harassment, family rejection, and the psychological wounds from navigating spaces that are not always safe create trauma that needs affirming, identity-competent clinical care. We offer this support to Athens's LGBTQ+ community.
