Grief Counseling & Bereavement Therapy in Brooklyn Park, MN

Grief Counseling & Bereavement Therapy in Brooklyn Park, MN

Intro Paragraph

Grief in Brooklyn Park's communities has complexities that many clinical frameworks struggle to accommodate. In the Somali community, grief is often transnational -- mourning someone who died in Mogadishu, in a refugee camp, or somewhere along a journey that ended before reaching safety. The rituals that structure Somali grief -- communal mourning, prayers, and the specific timeline of remembrance -- may be impossible to fully perform in a Brooklyn Park apartment. The resulting grief isn't just about losing a person; it's about losing the entire context in which grief is typically processed. In Brooklyn Park's Black American community, grief has been intensified by recent public and communal losses -- losses that often go unrecognized as trauma and go unmourned. Radiant Recovery offers grief counseling in Brooklyn Park that addresses all of this -- personal and communal, ritualistic and clinical, grief with a name and grief without. Insurance accepted through Minnesota Medicaid. Same-week appointments.

Who We Help

Somali and East African families grieving across borders

Mourning someone who died thousands of miles away, unable to travel, and not being with the community, all while managing the demands of everyday American life -- this is the grief experience for many East African Brooklyn Park residents. Our clinicians are trained in diasporic grief and understand the unique aspects of transnational loss, both clinically and culturally.

Black Brooklyn Park residents are carrying collective and personal grief

The Twin Cities' Black community has faced multiple public losses in recent years that have accumulated without enough space for mourning. Personal losses are intertwined with this communal grief in deeply meaningful ways. Our BIPOC therapists provide support for both, without expecting clients to separate them.

Families who lost someone to sudden or violent death

Grief after sudden death -- from accidents, violence, or medical emergencies -- has traumatic aspects that need trauma-informed and grief-informed clinical care. We incorporate both.

Adults with prolonged or complicated grief

When grief does not soften with time, when avoidance keeps the loss feeling fresh, and when daily functioning is significantly affected -- Prolonged Grief Disorder is a treatable condition. CGT is offered at RRCS.

Types of Loss We Support

- Death of a spouse, parent, child, or sibling

- Transnational and diasporic grief -- loss of family members in home countries

- Community and collective grief

- Sudden and violent death -- accident, homicide, medical emergency

- Suicide loss

- Pregnancy loss and perinatal grief

- Disenfranchised grief -- loss that is not publicly recognized

- Non-death losses -- divorce, displacement, health diagnosis

Our Treatment Approach

Culturally Grounded Grief Therapy

For Somali and East African clients: honoring the ritual, spiritual, and community frameworks through which grief is processed in these traditions, while providing evidence-based clinical support for the living. For Black clients: holding communal and personal grief simultaneously. For all clients: no imposed timeline, no clinical framework that does not fit.

Dual Process Model

An evidence-based framework that views healthy grieving as a back-and-forth process between confronting loss and adapting to life without the person or thing lost. We work at your pace.

Complicated Grief Treatment (CGT)

For clients meeting criteria for Prolonged Grief Disorder. Addresses avoidance, intrusion, and the specific mechanisms by which grief becomes stuck.
