Grief Counseling & Bereavement Therapy in Minneapolis, MN
Intro Paragraph
Grief is not a problem to solve on a timeline. It isn't a five-stage checklist. It's not something you should be over by now. Grief is the cost of love--and it deserves care that acknowledges its complexity instead of rushing it toward resolution. Minneapolis has seen collective grief in recent years, felt most strongly in its Black, East African, and immigrant communities--grief from community violence, unjust loss, and deaths that should not have occurred. At Radiant Recovery, we offer grief counseling and bereavement therapy that take all of this seriously--the personal, the communal, and the heavy burden of grieving in a culture that often doesn't make enough space for it.
Who We Help
Black Minneapolis residents navigating collective and community grief
The losses experienced in Minneapolis's Black community -- including the aftermath of George Floyd's murder and the ongoing reality of community violence in North Minneapolis -- have led to grief responses that are intense and felt across the community. Our BIPOC therapists hold space for this without minimizing or pathologizing it.
East African and immigrant communities
Grief in these communities is often worsened by distance -- mourning someone who died overseas without the ability to attend services, in a culture that doesn't always understand grief rituals. We respect the grief practices and cultural frameworks our clients bring with them.
Adults with complicated grief
When grief becomes persistent--if the intensity does not lessen over time, significantly impairs functioning, or is complicated by trauma--it is classified as Prolonged Grief Disorder, a clinical condition with specific evidence-based treatments.
People who have experienced disenfranchised grief
Loss that isn't publicly recognized--such as estranged family members, pregnancy loss, a relationship kept private, or pet loss--is still deeply felt. We honor all forms of loss.
Types of Loss We Support

Our Treatment Approach
Grief-Informed Therapy
Using the Dual Process Model, which sees healthy grieving as oscillating between confronting the loss and adjusting to life without what was lost. We work at your pace. There is no set timeline.
Complicated Grief Treatment (CGT)
For clients who meet the criteria for Prolonged Grief Disorder, CGT is an evidence-based protocol that addresses the specific mechanisms by which grief becomes stuck: avoidance, maladaptive thoughts, and difficulty imagining a future.
Culturally Grounded Grief Work
For East African and Hmong clients, for Black families whose grief includes historical dimensions -- our therapists integrate cultural context rather than imposing a Western framework. What healing means is shaped by culture.
