ADHD Therapy & Medication Management in Saint Paul, MN
Intro Paragraph
ADHD is significantly underdiagnosed in the communities that make up much of Saint Paul. In the Hmong community, behaviors that reflect ADHD are often interpreted through a cultural lens that attributes them to character, discipline, or family dynamics rather than neurodevelopment -- meaning children and adults go years without evaluation and support. In East African communities, the same pattern occurs. In Black Saint Paul, research shows consistent disparities in ADHD diagnosis rates compared to white peers, regardless of the actual prevalence. For adults of any background, ADHD that was missed in childhood often emerges as a late-life diagnosis after years of exhausting compensatory efforts. Radiant Recovery offers ADHD therapy and medication management for adults and teens in Saint Paul and across Ramsey County, with clinicians trained to evaluate ADHD accurately across cultural and demographic contexts.
Who We Help
Hmong adults and teens with undiagnosed ADHD
ADHD often remains undiagnosed in Hmong families because its behavioral signs are viewed through cultural expectations around obedience, family roles, and academic success. Adults seeking ADHD evaluation often carry years of self-blame, family tension, and underachievement in school or work, which have always had a neurological basis. Our clinicians approach assessments with an awareness of this cultural context.
East African adults and teens
Similar patterns of underdiagnosis occur within East African communities in Saint Paul. The combination of acculturative stress, language acquisition challenges, and ADHD can create a clinical picture that is difficult to untangle -- and it demands a clinician who understands all of its layers.
Black adults with late ADHD diagnoses
Research shows that Black adults are consistently underdiagnosed with ADHD compared to white peers. The cumulative cost -- including academic struggles, job instability, and damage to self-esteem -- is significant. We assess and treat with this context in mind.

Our Treatment Approach
CBT for ADHD
Practical, structured, and tailored to how the ADHD brain learns. Focuses on building executive function skills, overcoming procrastination, managing time, regulating emotions, and repairing the self-esteem damage that builds up from years of struggle. Culturally adapted where needed.
Psychiatric Medication Management
Stimulant medications (methylphenidate and amphetamine-based) are the most well-supported pharmacological treatments. Non-stimulant options (atomoxetine, guanfacine, bupropion) are available when stimulants are contraindicated. CRITICAL: Minnesota state regulations require an in-person assessment for new patients receiving controlled substance prescriptions.
Culturally Informed ADHD Assessment
Standard ADHD evaluation tools were developed on predominantly white, middle-class populations. Our Psych NP applies evaluation with awareness of how cultural context shapes ADHD presentation -- reducing the risk of missed diagnosis or misattribution of symptoms to behavioral or cultural factors.
