Trauma Therapy & PTSD Treatment in Saint Paul, MN
Intro Paragraph
Saint Paul is home to communities that carry significant historical and ongoing trauma. The Hmong community in Frogtown experienced the Secret War in Laos, refugee camps, the resettlement process, and the cultural rupture of building life in a country that still does not fully understand their history. The Somali and East African communities carry trauma from conflict, displacement, and loss that brought them to Minnesota. The Black community in Rondo bears the specific trauma of a neighborhood destroyed for a freeway--and the ongoing trauma of systemic racism that continued beyond I-94. At Radiant Recovery, we offer specialized trauma therapy and PTSD treatment in Saint Paul, tailored to the unique trauma histories of these communities. EMDR and CPT are available. We accept Minnesota Medicaid. Appointments are available within the same week.
Who We Help
Hmong trauma survivors in Saint Paul
The Hmong community's trauma history is collective, multigenerational, and often undertreated within the Western clinical system. Experiences such as war trauma, refugee camp hardship, the unique grief of statelessness, and the trauma from rapid cultural change across generations are approached by our clinicians with depth and cultural humility. EMDR can be especially effective for trauma that is hard to put into words.
East African and Somali refugee trauma survivors
Conflict-related trauma, torture, persecution, family separation, and the ongoing loss from years of displacement create complex trauma cases that need a slow, safety-focused approach. Our multilingual, culturally sensitive clinicians are ready to handle this work without asking clients to translate their experiences into a language they weren't designed for.
Black Saint Paul residents are processing racial and community trauma
From the destruction of Rondo to the high-profile incidents of racial violence that have defined recent years in the Twin Cities, Black Saint Paul residents carry trauma that is simultaneously personal and communal. Our BIPOC therapists hold this work with the seriousness it deserves.
Survivors of domestic violence and sexual trauma
Trauma bonding, shame, grief, and complex PTSD are common among DV and sexual trauma survivors. Our therapists focus on safety, pacing, and client agency throughout therapy.

Evidence-Based Trauma Therapies
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Especially helpful for trauma that is hard to express verbally -- including trauma from before a client's full language development or trauma stored in bodily memory rather than in words. EMDR does not require detailed verbal storytelling. Endorsed by the APA, VA, and WHO. Available in-person and via telehealth.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
A twelve-session, evidence-based protocol designed to address trauma-related beliefs about self, others, and the world. It works well for clients who experience intense shame, self-blame, or 'stuck points' after traumatic events.
Culturally Adapted Trauma Treatment
Standard trauma protocols are adapted to fit cultural contexts. For Hmong clients: incorporating community and family structures. For East African clients: engaging with spiritual frameworks when appropriate. For Black clients: emphasizing racial trauma as a valid clinical category without stigmatizing resilience.
Safety Planning and Stabilization
For complex and ongoing trauma, stabilization and safety--both internal and external--are put in place before processing starts. We do not rush this phase. A strong foundation leads to better processing results.
