Grief Counseling & Bereavement Therapy in Woodbury, MN
Intro Paragraph
Grief in Woodbury's east-metro suburb takes on a specific shape rooted in a community built around continuity and stability, making it especially unprepared for loss when it occurs. The social expectation of life in Woodbury is moving forward: new development, growing families, expanding careers. Loss disrupts this expectation in ways that the community structure does not always accommodate. South Asian and East Asian families in Woodbury may grieve within religious and cultural frameworks--Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Muslim--that they navigate in diaspora, often without full community support for the rituals prescribed by their traditions. Black families who moved east from Saint Paul may mourn while also feeling the distance from the community that would normally support them through bereavement. Meanwhile, the general Woodbury population--professional, suburban, and used to managing--may find that grief does not respond to the usual management strategies that work for other issues. Radiant Recovery offers grief counseling for Woodbury residents via telehealth across Minnesota. Accepted by Minnesota Medicaid. Same-week appointments.
Who We Help
South Asian and East Asian families grieving within diaspora religious traditions
For Woodbury's South Asian and East Asian communities, grief rituals -- such as the puja, Hindu mourning period, Sikh Akhand Path, and the specific timelines and practices of various religious traditions -- may be experienced with less intensity in diaspora. The grief that follows is complicated by the spiritual and cultural incompleteness of rituals that could not be fully performed. Our clinicians approach these dimensions with sincere understanding of the traditions involved.
Black Woodbury families are grieving in relative community isolation
For Black east-metro residents who have relocated from Saint Paul, loss can be mourned without the community that usually supports it. The physical distance from extended family and community -- and the social distance of being one of the few Black families in a predominantly white suburb -- creates a grief that also becomes a form of isolation. We offer grief support that acknowledges both.
Families dealing with sudden or traumatic loss
Sudden death -- accident, medical emergency, unexpected cardiac event -- produces grief with traumatic dimensions that require trauma-informed as well as grief-informed clinical care. We integrate both.
Adults with prolonged or complicated grief
When grief persists for more than 12 months and causes significant functional impairment, Prolonged Grief Disorder -- evidence-based Complicated Grief Treatment (CGT) -- is available through telehealth.

Our Treatment Approach
Culturally Grounded Grief Therapy
For South Asian and East Asian clients: respecting Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Muslim grief frameworks with genuine understanding--working with religious practices rather than alongside them as separate considerations. For Black clients: honoring communal grief traditions while providing individual clinical support.
Dual Process Model
Evidence-based. No imposed timeline. Oscillation between confronting loss and adjusting to life forward, at the client's pace.
Complicated Grief Treatment (CGT)
For clients meeting criteria for Prolonged Grief Disorder, providing an evidence-based protocol that targets avoidance and the mechanisms by which grief becomes stuck.
