Postpartum Depression Therapy in Minneapolis, MN

Postpartum depression is one of the most common complications of childbirth affecting roughly one in five new mothers and one of the most undertreated. In Minnesota, where winters are long and social isolation can compound the difficulty of new parenthood, the barriers to getting help are real. You shouldn't have to bundle a newborn into a car in February to access therapy. At Radiant Recovery, we offer postpartum depression treatment via telehealth across the entire state, with in-person care available at our Minneapolis clinic for clients who want it.

What Postpartum Depression Actually Looks Like

Postpartum depression is not the baby blues, which are short-lived and resolve on their own within two weeks. PPD is a clinical condition that requires treatment and can emerge any time in the first year after delivery. It can look like:

Persistent low mood, crying, or emotional numbness that doesn't lift

Difficulty bonding with your baby or guilt about the difficulty bonding

Intrusive thoughts about your baby's safety or your own adequacy as a parent

Anxiety, irritability, or rage that feels disproportionate and hard to control

Withdrawing from your partner, family, or support network

Difficulty sleeping even when the baby sleeps, or sleeping too much

Feeling like you've made a terrible mistake, or that your baby deserves a better mother

Postpartum Anxiety, OCD, and Psychosis: Important Distinctions

Postpartum depression often comes with significant anxiety. Some new parents experience postpartum OCD, characterized by unwanted intrusive thoughts (often about harming the baby) that are deeply distressing precisely because they conflict with your love for your child. These are not intentions, they are symptoms and they are treatable. Postpartum psychosis is rare but a medical emergency requiring immediate care. If you or someone you know is experiencing hallucinations, delusions, or rapid-onset severe symptoms after childbirth, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Treatment Designed Around New Parenthood

We offer telehealth PPD treatment statewide across Minnesota because we know what postpartum life actually looks like unpredictable schedules, a baby who naps in 45-minute windows, and the impossibility of a commute. Treatment combines CBT for depression and anxiety, evidence-based approaches to intrusive thoughts, partner and family support where beneficial, and coordination with your OB, midwife, or pediatrician. Medication options including antidepressants compatible with breastfeeding are available through our psychiatric providers.
