ABOUT
I'm Neha Nkurpad, M.S., NCC, a Pre-Licensed Counselor (APC pending) based in Georgia and available to clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University, and I practice as a narrative and existential therapist, with specialized training in Narrative Exposure Therapy.
I've journeyed through my own difficult times and hope to pay that forward - it's a big part of why I do this work. I take my time to really get to know a client and understand who they are and where they come from, because I believe that context is what makes real understanding possible. I'm collaborative and client-centered, and I'll gently challenge you as we build trust together.
I'm conversationally fluent in four languages - English, Gujarati, and some Spanish and Hindi - and I enjoy learning the vocabulary that feels most meaningful to a client in their own language.
WHO I HELP
I work with young adults, adults, older adults, couples, and parents, especially those navigating the intersection of culture, identity, and family. I have particular experience with marginalized and immigrant communities (first- or second-generation), South and East Asian populations, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
• Adults from marginalized or immigrant backgrounds navigating identity and cultural adjustment
• People breaking intergenerational or family patterns of trauma
• Clients experiencing perfectionism, people-pleasing, or burnout
• Adults moving through life transitions - school, relationships, marriage, grief
• Couples and parents working through relational and family dynamics
MY THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
I'm a narrative and existential therapist. My role is to walk alongside a client and act as a mirror as they understand all the parts of themselves and how to put them together into a life that feels fulfilling. I provide tools and skills when it's helpful, but I let the client lead - you'll always have exercises, skills, and psychoeducation available, but only when you're in a place to receive them. Approaches I draw on include:
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
• Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
• Solution-Focused and Person-Centered Therapy
• Narrative Therapy and Attachment-Based Therapy
• Gottman Method (for couples)
• Exposure-Based Interventions, including Narrative Exposure Therapy

PERFECTIONISM, PEOPLE-PLEASING & BURNOUT
Many of the clients I see feel like they constantly need to perform or carry too many roles and responsibilities, and it wears on them slowly over time. I work with clients to help them find their way back to themselves after giving from an empty cup - stepping back, showing up for themselves while still showing up for others, and understanding what they can control and what they need to surrender.
CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE CARE
I have meaningful experience with South and East Asian, Muslim and Hindu, and Latino clients, as well as clients from all socioeconomic backgrounds, enmeshed or codependent family systems, and those navigating acculturative stress and identity. As a narrative therapist, I pay close attention to the cultural and racial discourses that make up a client's identity and how they show up in daily life.
INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA & PTSD
Many clients carry wounds that started generations ago. I've worked with clients who feel responsible for fixing familial hurt, or who feel like an outsider in their own family system. Breaking those cycles is powerful, painful work, and I'm passionate about supporting clients through it - alongside clients who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual trauma, and relational trauma.
LIFE TRANSITIONS & IDENTITY
As an existential and narrative therapist, I love walking with clients as they navigate changes in life and establish a sense of meaning and purpose that feels authentic to them. I specialize in working with clients from marginalized backgrounds, where integrating two or more identities can bring up real anxiety, self-esteem struggles, and relational strain. My goal is to understand all the layers of a client's identity with open curiosity and help them weave together something that feels most fulfilling to them.
