Grief Counseling & Bereavement Therapy in Atlanta, GA

Grief Counseling & Bereavement Therapy in Atlanta, GA

Intro Paragraph

Black Atlanta has always known how to come together in grief. The funerals, the repast, the church community -- the communal structures are real and meaningful. But they are not always enough. When the loss is traumatic, when grief extends beyond what community alone can hold, when you are not sleeping, cannot concentrate, and have withdrawn from everyone who loves you -- that is when professional care becomes part of the healing. Radiant Recovery offers grief counseling and bereavement therapy for Atlanta residents, with a particular focus on the grief experiences most common in Atlanta's Black and BIPOC communities -- sudden and violent loss, community-level grief, and disenfranchised grief. Georgia Medicaid accepted. In-person at Midtown or telehealth statewide.

Who We Help

Black Atlanta residents carrying community and personal grief

In communities such as West End, Vine City, College Park, and South Fulton, personal loss is often wrapped in community-level grief -- violence, displacement, structural loss -- that isn't always named officially but builds up into something that demands attention.

Families affected by gun violence

Atlanta's high rates of community violence mean many Black Atlantans have lost someone to gun violence. The grief that follows is complicated by trauma, anger, and a social environment that doesn't always make space for mourning.

Adults grieving unrecognized losses

Pregnancy loss. The death of an estranged parent. Grief over a relationship that was not public. Loss of a life you expected to have. Our clinicians take all loss seriously -- it does not have to be conventional to be real.

LGBTQ+ Atlantans

Grief within chosen families, including the loss of community members and the specific grief of losing found family, warrants the same clinical attention as any other loss.

Types of Loss We Support

- Death of a spouse, parent, child, or sibling

Our Treatment Approach

Grief-Informed Individual Therapy

Paced entirely according to you, using the Dual Process Model and integrating cultural frameworks to show what grief looks like in the communities we serve. No timeline, no pressure.

Complicated Grief Treatment (CGT)

Evidence-based protocol for Prolonged Grief Disorder. Targets avoidance, trauma intrusion, and difficulty envisioning forward progress.

Culturally Grounded Practice

For Black Atlanta clients, grief work that respects how community, faith, family, and history influence the grieving process. We do not apply a clinical framework that overlooks all of that.
